The PYP curriculum
Taught in over 109 countries around the world, the PYP curriculum framework is uniquely adaptable to state and national standards. Guided by six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, students deepen their learning by developing their conceptual understandings; strengthening their knowledge and skills across and beyond subject areas.
Who is the PYP for?
As long as a school has been authorized to implement the programme, the PYP is open to any student aged 3 to 12.
What are the benefits of the PYP?
The PYP is a transformative experience for students, teachers and whole school communities. PYP students learn how to take control of their learning, teachers collaborate to deepen student- learning and increase their confidence and self-motivation. The whole school community, including parents, are viewed as partners in learning, and actively contribute to a holistic educational experience.

The IB understands people's singularities and encourages students to become proactive, compassionate, lifelong learners. Along with academics and cognitive development, IB takes into consideration students' social, emotional, and physical well-being. Its programmes offer opportunities for students to become active and caring members of local and global communities. Student inclusion, access to education, language, and culture diversity in schools are also important aspects to be considered. The IB is a community whose members are constantly involved in learning and improving themselves.
The Essence of the Primary Years Programme (PYP)
The Primary Years Programme entails education from early years up to the end of Elementary. Just like us, world schools affiliated with the IB usually work with both their common core and the international curriculum interwoven. PYP aims to get children ready, prepared, and willing to become world citizens. The PYP's essence translates into working now to build the best possible future for all. St. John's students will become young adults with a deep international mindset, prepared to take action in finding solutions for global issues that may distress society and the planet.
PYP promotes in each child the unstoppable search for knowledge and always for the most adequate solution for a problem. Students learn in different ways and demonstrate different abilities when it comes to processing information. PYP understands our individuality and how important it is to identify and strengthen individual attributes during the learning process. PYP believes in helping children to nurture their own self-care, self-responsibility, and to respect each other and our planet. Above all, it is very important to be bold, to develop self-awareness and confidence to decide and plan for their own future.
Mission Statement from the IB
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
